BASIC PIKE TACKLE

BASIC PIKE TACKLE REQUIREMENTS
Fishing for pike requires some specialised tackle. However, while there are a few fundamentals that are essential you might or might not already have some of the equipment.
you will need a strong line 15lb or even 20lb and of course a wire trace to stop the pike from biting through your line a 15lb wire trace is the minimum and sometimes it is better to err on the heavy side and go for 20 even 25lb the pike angling club recommend a trace of 30lb, Hooks can be Single Doubles or Trebles and most pike anglers now use Barbless to aid in removal after the fish has been landed.
A good strong rod is also necessary there is no point in buying a pike rod? as a good carp rod will do the same job infact a 2.5lb test curve pike rod is no different than a 2.5lb Carp rod accept for maybe the stickers?
A good quality reel capable of holding 250yds of 15lb a bait runner type reel will be ideal.
A good sized landing net i would say a minimum of 36inch would be fine, you will also need a selection of floats, an unhooking mat, Long Handled forceps, bite alarm if needed, and a bag to carry it all in.
